Sport & Recreation is a core focus area at RLHS as it directly supports our positive School Culture. RLHS offers our students a wide variety of individual and team experiences in both sport and recreational activities, catering for all levels and abilities. To support students, we offer an Activity Sign Up event at the start of the year providing a “one stop shop” for all students to see what activities are being offered and to join what they are interested in.

RLHS is supported by staff, parents, community members, and alumni, who graciously give their time and skills to coach, train, and manage our students in these activities. Most activities train and compete during the week, however, some are required to play on weekends for their designated competition or events.

Our school enjoys quality sporting facilities, including Squash courts, a multipurpose gymnasium with Fitness Hub, covered Netball courts, Hockey Sand Turf, and Football & Rugby fields. The courts, turf, and fields have an impressive lighting network, increasing each space’s practicality for school and community groups.

RLHS regularly participates in House Competitions to promote physical activity and House pride, including events such as Athletics Day, Swimming Sports, Inter-House Games, House Haka challenges, and more. In addition to building a sense of belonging, these events support the selection process for school representation in the Bay of Plenty Championships for Athletics and Swimming.
